How Much Ceiling Height
Do You Need for a Car Lift?
The short answer is it depends on your lift type and how tall your cars are. Here's what we tell customers.
Ceiling height by lift type
Two post baseplate lift
The cables run across the bottom along the floor. You can usually fit one in a 10 foot garage.
Two post clear floor lift
Everything runs overhead so the floor stays clear. That one usually needs about 12 feet of ceiling.
Four post lift
If you want to park one car on top and another underneath, you usually need at least 10 feet. Depending on how tall your cars are, sometimes you can get away with a little less.
Your cars change the math
